When pulled upright the Chariot is about overcoming challenges and being victorious through maintaining control of your surroundings. You need to be strong and have willpower to be victorious and achieve your goals. You must maintain focus, confidence, and determination through your journey in life. If you have a plan you are unsure of pursue it with a structured approach. In your drive to reach your goal you may realize you are becoming competitive or aggressive. These are natural aspects of human nature and can be good to help you reach your goals but you must make sure it keep it under control so it doesn’t hinder you moving forward.
When pulled in reverse the Chariot is about excessive aggression and/or a lack of willpower. It can mean that you lack drive, determination, and ambition or the opposite, that you are becoming overly obsessed with your goals. This card can also be about a lack of control or direction in your life. You are letting yourself be tossed around and are just taking the punches. This is a time to remember to tie any loose ends and to take charge of your destiny.
Here is a tarot spread that focuses on The Chariot Card. First I would take the Chariot out of the deck and meditate on the goal you want help with right now. Then I would shuffle the cards and pull them using the method you see as best.
Card 1: This card represents you and your personality, which dictates what kinds of risks you usually take, whether you are cautious or careless, and affects how high you usually set your goals. You are perfectly capable of achieving more, if you so desire, but be aware that the effort may be greater, or that some changes in your current mode of thinking may be required.
Card 2: This card represents your goal, what you are focusing on, or an aspect of that goal you hadn’t considered. Is this really what you want?
Cards 3, 4 and 5: These cards are the things you have, resources upon which to draw, things or people that can help. Also things that you will need to achieve your goal.
Cards 6 and 7: These represent a tempered version of the goal, a reality check. They represent what is possible, and a concrete way to make it happen, a step to the goal. Can be problems that will be met and need to be overcome, or things to watch out for and prepare for.
When you have read all the cards, look at them all together. Are the steps to your goal in order? Lay them out so that they are, from you to your goal. Maybe you find the goal itself is not in the right place. Rearrange them so they make sense to you, not necessarily in a straight line, but however it takes to get you there.
