When pulled upright this card is about sacrifices needed to be made in order to move forward. Him being upside down can also signify how those who walk a spiritual path see the world differently. He also reflects a need to suspend certain actions. This can cause a time of indecision. It would be best if you can stall making certain actions so you can be sure you have more time to reflect on important decisions. This card is mostly about waiting and suspension. Taking action is not always the best solution. Sometimes it is best to just wait.
When pulled in reverse this card is about a specific time, during which you feel you are sacrifices a significant amount without getting anything in return. You may feel you are at a standstill with no resolution or movement. You feel like you are putting your everything into something but not reaping any rewards.
Here is a tarot spread that focuses on the hanged man. This spread is great for effecting change into your life. First I would take the hanged man out of the deck and meditate on the card thinking about what change you want to happen. Then shuffle the cards and pull them as you see fit.
Card 1: This card represents your life in suspension.
Card 2: This card represents what needs to be sacrificed, the area to attend to. This represents what must be given up or let go for real change, the hard decisions that must be made to do the real work.
Card 3: This card represents an epiphany, the deep change made as a result if you are willing, the possibilities. Or can be a warning against the easy way out.
