It’s that time of the month again. Time to learn about another Pantheon! I’m pretty excited to do this one because I think Norse culture in itself is pretty cool, so I’m looking forward to learning it’s mythologies. As always, if you think I missed an important god or goddess and would like me to add them to the list always feel free to let me know.
Frigg: Frigg is the queen the Gods and Goddess and she is also the Goddess of the sky. She is the wife of Odin so she is also the goddess of fertility, household, motherhood, marriage, and domestic matters.
Hel: Hel is the goddess of the netherworld. She was decide the fate of all the souls who entered her realm. When she is in her own realm she is thought to be more powerful than Odin himself.
Freya: She is thought to be the goddess of love, fertility, beauty, and fine material possessions. She is the archetype of volva, a practitioner of seidr (the most organized form of norse magic). She is also the ruler of the afterlife realm folkvang.
Odin: He is the king of the Gods and the husband of Frigg. He is the god of wisdom, healing, sorcery, frenzy, and royalty to death. Thought to be one of the most revered Gods.
Thor: He was the loyal defender of Asgard and was considered to be the protector of the ordered cosmos. He was the god of agriculture, fertility, sky, rain, and hallowing.
Loki: He is the trickster of the Norse gods who could change his shape and sex. He is considered to be the god of fire. He had a huge part in Balder’s death and was bound to a rock as punishment.
Balder: He is the god of light and purity. He was thought to be extremely handsome. He was killed when Loki gave Balder’s twin brother (who was blind) a dart made of mistletoe. Balder’s brother threw the dart at him (apparently they used to do that as joke) and hit Balder in the heart with it (mistletoe was deadly to Balder).
Do you follow the Norse Pantheon? If so, who do you worship? Let me know in the comments along with any other thoughts or questions you may have. Also, make sure you follow me here and on twitter to get notifications when I post. Until next time, Merry Meet and Blessed Be!
