Tarot Series~ Minor Arcana: Knight of Swords

63951679f53b24efd6f0ad0e2898a5bd

When pulled upright this card represents someone who is so focused on a certain idea, that they become oblivious to any difficulties; conflicts; or consequences it brings us, as they try to achieve it. This card is about someone full of life and energy but they need to make sure they are balancing themselves out with a good dose of compassion and responsibility. The person this card represents, is someone who once they have set their mind to something there is no stopping them. While this can be a great trait as it shows ambition and dedication it can also have some downfalls. Some of the things this person might be willing to do to achieve their goal could have some very serious consequences. They are likely prone to move ahead without any preparation or foresight, which can put them in a dangerous (or at the very least unpleasant) situation.

When pulled in reverse this card is about someone who is extremely impatient, impulsive, and full of energy. However unlike the person the upright card represents this person has no direction, despite their abundance in energy. This causes a lot of rash decisions which can drag others down with them. This person likely has a lot of scattered thoughts and they don’t tend to take the time to go through them and organize them. It is quite likely that they are a disorganized person. When they do finally have something they want to achieve with all that energy they have they are likely very unprepared due to this lack of organization.

Here is a tarot spread to help you find some direction for all that energy you have. First I would take out the knight of swords and meditate on it thinking about your directionless energy that you have. Then shuffle and pull the cards using your preferred method.

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Five of Swords

e8451e082e5bb9f8379ca8d479b048bd

When pulled upright this card is about being in a conflict. It also could be about a disagreement with someone(s) which is creating a lot of tension in your relationship with them. It may appear that you’ve won right now but when you look at the big picture you may realize that you’ve actually lost because you have damaged your relationship with this person which has now isolated you. You may find that at the time you were more concerned with being right than understanding the other person’s point of view. Now you need to try and pick up the pieces and fix this relationship you’ve hurt. The conflict is still fresh so resentment hasn’t had time to fester. You need to decide what is most important to you, winning the argument or your relationship with said person. This card is also about a negative type of ambition. This is the kind of ambition that has no regard for others. It doesn’t care who it has to knock down to achieve it’s goal. This kind of ambition can leave you either a sore loser or a sore winner and nothing in between. This card reminds us to think about others and to let go of our egos.

When pulled in reverse this card is about wanting to forgive and forget the conflict that the five of swords in the upright position is referring to. This card shows that you have started to realize that winning isn’t always everything. Because of this you will be able to take all the energy you were investing in winning and put it towards something better. There is another interpretation of this card which is that the conflict you are experiencing is going to become more upsetting as you realize you all are going to lose.

Here is a tarot spread to help you organize your thoughts on a conflict you’re experiencing. First I would take the five of swords out of the deck and meditate on it while focusing on this conflict. Then shuffle and pull the cards using your preferred method.

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Two of Swords

e2811710b81c4f8e41089f821c3eafe0

When pulled upright this card is about a stalemate. There are two people, ideas, situations, what have you, that are clashing right now. Neither are getting anywhere due to this. When you started on your journey down the path that led you here you had not foreseen an issue such as this. You probably are finding that you’re caught right in the middle. If nothing or no one sorts this out this stalemate could continue indefinitely. You need to choose between one or the other, despite the fact that neither probably sound all that desirable. As soon as you make this decision though you will be able to progress on your journey. You may also find that this card is about balance and partnerships. It is reminding us that we need to keep our relationships balanced. Regardless of what type of relationship it is, business, platonic, romantic, etc you find yourself struggling to maintain them. If this a reading about work this card suggests you are stuck in limbo and seem to be waiting on the decisions of others. Remember to stay patient and don’t pressure this person into rushing their decision. This card could also be warning you to be cautious. You may find that you are trying to stay ignorant of the situation hoping that if you don’t acknowledge it it’ll go away. This card is reminding you to stop avoiding your problems as this will not fix them.

When pulled in reverse this card is about a much more intense stalemate. It is like 2 forces are battling each other. This could be an external battle or an internal one, but regardless you are being forced to be the tie breaker. You may find that neither party are easy to work with which may be making it hard for you to make your decision. Whenever you do make the decision it will be a decision between two bad outcomes. The important part is to just make the choice because you will be able to deal with what consequences it brings.

Here is a spread to help you make your decision in your stalemate. First I would take out the two of swords and meditate on it while thinking about the 2 choices that you have before you. Then shuffle and pull using your preferred method.

My Salem Massachusetts 2 Day Trip Itinerary

So in the last week of June my partner and I will be going on a 10 day vacation and one of our stops is going to be 2 days in Salem. So I thought it would be fun if today I kind of post our itinerary and then the Wednesday after our trip I make a big post about what exactly we did, what we thought of each thing and then some pictures!

Also key to note that any prices I provide are in USD.

Day 1:

So day one will be spent absorbing all the knowledge I can get.

  • First stop will be the Salem witch museum.
    • For your knowledge the pricing is $13 for an adult, $11.50 for seniors, and $10 for kids 6-14. Presumably kids 5 and under are free.
  • Salem witch trials memorial is the second stop
    • I read online that one should do the museum first (as we plan to) to have more context. As long as you aren’t doing a tour this is free to my knowledge.
  • Charter st cemetery is third on the list
    • This cemetery is right beside the Salem witch trials memorial so it is a good spot to head to right after there
    • I would assume it is free as long as it isn’t a guided tour
  • The Howard st cemetery
    • This is said to be the cemetery that Giles Corey was pressed to death
    • And as the rest of the places of rest should be free

brujeria-holanda-k0LH--510x349@abc

Day 2:

Most of this day will be just appreciating the city for what it is a city. We’ll go and check out local stores and just see other none witchy sites. However if the day end up drawing out a bit I have a couple places we could go to check out.

  • The Witch House
  • Witch History Museum
    • I found the price at one point but can’t seem to find it again
    • I read that this museum focuses more on witchcraft rather than the trials.

One thing that we will be doing later on in the evening is going on a walking tour. The tour we are going to go on is by hocus pocus tours. I’ll leave a link here if you want to know more about it. However if you just want to know the price it is Adults: $17, Seniors (65 & up): $15, Military Service Members: $15, Students: $15, Children (Ages 5-12): $10. Prices change a bit in October.

So that is all for today’s post. Make sure you stay tuned so you can hear about how the trip went and what I think of the various locations. Have you been to Salem? Let me know if you think there’s place I should visit that I haven’t mentioned, along with any other thoughts or questions you may have. Make sure you follow me here and on twitter so you get notifications when I post and when I upload videos to youtube. Until next time, Blessed Be!

Real or Fake Yule tree?

So, today I thought it would be fun if we looked at a question I asked the Wiccan community last year and what answers I was given. Last year was my first yule really. We were in a pretty big place so we decided to get a real tree. Being the weird little witch that I am, I was laying underneath my tree, just hanging out and admiring how beautiful it was. While I was doing this I started thinking to myself, is having a real tree against Wiccan beliefs? Am I supporting the destruction of our forests? So I went to the internet and asked.

So firstly the majority of people said that having a real tree was not against our beliefs and rather could be more in line with our beliefs than fake trees. The reasons people gave for this varied. One person pointed out that the material fake trees are made from is actually detrimental to our earth. The material does not break down and therefore just adds more garbage to our landfills. Another person mentioned that most real trees are farmed so when you think of it that way you aren’t actually contributing to deforestation. Someone else (this is my favourite response) actually said that when you bring the yule tree inside you are actually bringing the sprites of nature inside to keep them warm throughout the cold winter. I personally think that is a beautiful thought process to have.

A few other responses were people actually giving me advice on how to make the most out of my yule tree. So a common comment was people suggesting to buy a tree that has it roots/root ball attached and keep it in your house in a pot. When the holidays are over you can bring it outside and plant it in your yard. This way no trees have to die at all. You can also take the pine needles from your tree and save them for spells, rituals, or anything else you’d use pine needles for. You can also cut up the tree and use it for a bonfire outside.

What I personally did last year with my tree was I cut a good chunk of the log off and this year I am going to take my yule log and make a candle stand out of it. You can also take this log and burn it for a ritual. I also left my tree outside all winter on my back deck as a place for any critters to relax.

At the end of the day though your beliefs are your beliefs and you must to whatever corresponds with them. Not only that but sometimes we aren’t always blessed to have the space for a real tree. This year I am living in a much smaller home and only have room for my little 4.5 foot fake tree. And that’s okay too.

Thanks for reading today’s post. Do you have a real or a fake yule tree this year? Let me know in the comments along with any other thought or questions you have. Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Page of Wands

26c4ce10e0461c3f601a725c36ba8c9b

When pulled upright this card is about there being something within you, encouraging you to make discoveries, investments, or take new steps in life. Perhaps you have something you want to do but there is some sort of conflicting message keeping you from doing it. This card represents this conflict that is within you, keeping you from showing the world that you exist for a reason. If one is wise this card will encourage you to be courageous. It should make you get over your conflicts and inner turmoil so you can reach your goals. Get rid of all your fear and do something! Do everything your mind is set on. Show the world who you are and that you aren’t someone to mess with. This card shows you a level success that can only be reached by being courageous.

When pulled in reverse this card is about having a bunch of ideas but not being able to go anywhere with them. Here is an example that happens quite often. Maybe you have this idea for a blog and you start it and have super high hopes for it to take off but it just never does. In this situation you are likely to do a reading and get the page of wands. When you get this card in reverse take it as a sign that maybe you should put your time into other ventures.

Here is a tarot spread that can help you find your courage. First I would take out the page of wands and mediate on it while thinking about what it is you want more courage to do. Then shuffle and pull your cards using your preferred method.

The History behind Yule

In about a week or so I am going to be making my usual post about the upcoming sabbat but I thought it might be fun if today we actually talk about the history of Yule.

So back in the day, before Christmas even existed, we had Yule and it’s variances (Saturnalia). It was quite festive. Lots of drinking and parties. A lot of the traditions we have today existed then. For example, the yule tree, bonfires, feasts, etc.  However, when Christianity started forming the Christians weren’t too fond of our Yule.

There were certain people within the ranks (if you will) of Christianity who had the job of converting pagans, and the like, to Christianity using whatever forces they deemed necessary. It got to the point that you had to either pick Christianity or death.

One method the Christians used (other than murder) to convert the pagans is they took their yule traditions, made them a little less rowdy and called them Christmas traditions. Not only that, but they took their celebrations and gave them similar backgrounds (Christmas and Yule are both about the birth of god), and made the days relatively close to each other. For example, Yule starts on December 21st (the winter solstice) and they put Christmas on the 25th (even though that isn’t when Jesus was born).

So more and more pagans were either choosing Christianity, dying, or keeping their faith in secret. I feel this is why it is important to honour the pagans of the past during our sabbats because they did not have the freedom of religion we so luckily have today.

Sorry today’s post is a bit short but I hope you enjoyed it and learned something new. What are some of your favourite Yule traditions? If you let me know in the comments maybe I can add them to the Yule sabbat post I make later this month. Also, make sure you follow me here and on twitter so you get notifications on when I post and upload youtube videos. Until next time, Merry Meet and Blessed Be!

Tarot Series~Minor Arcana: Five of Wands

b7dfd2a065c8be3846b8e73dd0cad638

When pulled upright this card is about conflict in your life. This conflict may already exist or it may be in the works of starting up now. This card could also be about communication problems. This card depicts 5 entities who are all fighting with each other. No one is listening to the other. They all want to be heard and none want to listen. This problem can often be solved if the person asking the question take the first steps to opening up communication. Everyone will be heard which means everyone will be happy. This card can also talk about experiencing competition in your life (this could already be happening or be about to happen). This competition will take place in an area of your life that you are not used to competing in. This card suggests that you take on the challenge and view it as a way to grow without showing any malice. This card could also be about a personal struggle you are having. You need to address this problem you are having and find a solution.

When pulled in reverse this card is about how you deal with conflict. It says that instead of dealing with disagreements and conflict you avoid them. Sometimes this is a good things but not always. Other times it can result in your bottling things up which may cause you to explode later on.

Here is a tarot spread based on the 5 of wands. This is a great spread for when you’re trying to work through a conflict. First I would take out the 5 of wands and meditate on it while thinking about the conflict that’s happening in your life. Then shuffle and pull the cards using your preferred method.
