Working for a Christian Family

Hello everyone! I thought today it would be interesting to give my take on what it is like working for a Christian family. Now I am lucky in saying that the family I have been working for are pretty open-minded, in the sense that they don’t care what I believe, even if they think what I believe is a load of crap. However, it has still presented me with some interesting situations.

I have been working for this family for about 4 months. I am a nanny for their elementary aged daughter. The first month and a half I spent with them we were actually travelling all over northern USA. It was actually a lot of fun. Even at the first week my lack of Christian faith brought up some challenges. At this time their daughter was very religious and was shocked that I did not share her belief in God. She kept asking me about church. I would always say that I think it is great that she enjoys going but that it wasn’t my cup of tea. One time when it was just me and her, God came up again. I proceeded to say that I wasn’t Christian but that I thought it was super cool she was and that everyone should be able to believe in what they want. She essentially told me I had to believe in God because if not I would go to hell. I know she wasn’t trying to be rude or anything. She simply didn’t want me to go to hell, but this conversation happened a number of times. It was very uncomfortable.

Later on the trip it was naturally brought up that I am Wiccan. The family was actually rather interested to hear what that meant. I explained it to them (however I did leave out the magick aspect of the religion). They thought that a lot of our beliefs were actually quite similar despite the different religions and then it wasn’t really brought up again.

After we got home I started watching this child about 2 times during the work week and then most weekends (plus or minus some days depending on the week). So I had a few holidays (Mabon and Samhain) that happened while watching her. Due to this I would celebrate the holidays with her. Mind you, I didn’t do any rituals or anything with her. I only went on sabbat walks or had big meals, stuff like that. I was trying to really make sure I didn’t overstep and make her family feel like I was trying to convert her. At one point I was bringing my tarot cards over to her house so when she was in bed I could do a reading for this blog. She asked me what they were and I answered her. She told her parents and was told she wasn’t allowed to use them. So ever since then I have been hesitant to bring them over, hence why the Sunday readings haven’t been happening.

As for the latest development in this story, this is where the majority of the issues have arisen. This child is very curious and she has lots of questions. She asks me a lot of questions about various things that I believe in. Some examples are: who we worship, what I think of angels, spirit guides, magick, fairies (and other creatures from other realms). This weekend she told me that she didn’t like Christianity and that she was really interested in exploring Wicca. Now if my child told me they wanted to explore other religions I would be totally fine with it. I think all people, regardless of age, should be able to decide for themselves what they believe. However, I know this family has quite a different mindset and would be very mad if they found out otherwise. Luckily, last weekend was my last time working for that family and I can only hope that for her sake (and mine as I am friends with this family) that she forgets about Wicca, at least for now, and continues her Christian faith until she is a bit older.

That’s it for this week. Thank you for reading! Has your religion every effected you professionally? Tell me about it in the comments along with any other thoughts or questions you have. Also, let me know if you’d like to see Sunday tarot readings come back, now that I am done working Sunday’s in a Christian environment. Make sure you follow me here and on twitter so you get notifications when I post and upload videos to youtube. Until next time, Merry Meet and Blessed Be!

The Fae Realm

So first of all lets start by saying although most Wiccans believe in the Fae realm not all do. I personally don’t know how I feel about the fae realm. I know there are certain aspects of it that I connect more to than others but regardless of my beliefs I have the facts from those who do believe as I do a lot of research.

In the Fae realm there are 3 main types of creatures. There are fairies, elementals, and tree spirits. In these 3 categories there are various different creatures but before we get to that we should talk more about them as whole.

Firstly when in ritual or when doing spell work you can summon friends from the Fae to help you. In general though you do not want to summon them into your circle but rather to the outside of them because they can be rather mischievous.

Each category of Fae have different skills and personality traits. The fairies are flower fairies, mermaids, mermen, little people, sprites, pixies, elves etc. They come in all different shapes and sizes. They can come like the cute fairies you see on tv, they can be more humanesque, they can be kinda ugly too. They can change their shape to match their environment. When summoning them to your circle it is best to keep them on the outside of the circle as they are mischievous and can mess around with the energy you’re raising. They are easiest to contact at dawn, dusk, noon, and midnight. The best days are are the equinoxes and solstices. Some indications the fairies have joined you is when your candle flame starts to dance for no other reason or sometimes you can feel a crawling sensation on your arm. Their skills lie in healing, metalworking, and all arts. You can call fairies into your home and they will guard it and make sure nothing goes wrong but be prepared for mischief. They may borrow/hide your earrings, make your keys disappear just when you need them. They’re also really hard to get rid of if you decide you no longer want them around. They could stay for a very long time. Some ways to attract the fairies to your yard is to leave offerings of milk and sweets, you can also build a little fairy home to leave in the yard, there are also fairy chants you can do.

Wiccan Series (Part 16): The Fae Realm

The elementals are Sylphs, Salamanders, Undines, and Gnomes. You can also summon elementals to your circles but you don’t want to invite them in. You can invite them to guard your circle from any negative energy. Some people think we are all assigned elemental(s) at birth to watch over us. They are not compassionate creatures and like fairies don’t like to be thanked. They would rather a gift like milk, honey, coins, or small shiny objects.

Sylphs:

They are a force of air. They can be a gentle breeze or even a tornado. They are associated with our thoughts and mental development. They can spur and activate your imagination. They can also carry a message from you to another person’s sylph.

Salamanders:

They live anywhere where there is fire: the core of the earth, a candle, the sun. Great to summon if you need help with sexuality or love. They will help build your passion, vitality, enthusiasm, and spirituality. The can be difficult to control.

Undines:

They live in water: oceans, rivers, drops of rain. They are good at helping with healing, purification, creativity, or emotional issues. Usually they are in female form. They can awaken our empathy, imagination, and intuition.

Gnomes:

They are part of the earth. They maintain geological structures. They are associated with sensation and fertility. They can help you with growth, nurturing, abundance, fertility, or prosperity. They give the rocks and crystals their own unique energy. They are skilled craftspeople and can lend us endurance and persistence.

Tree spirits:

Each tree spirit has it’s own personality depending on the type of tree. You can work with a willow to learn to become more bending, forgiving, and adaptable. You can work with oak to for strength, wisdom, and steadfastness. You can work with a redwood to help with longevity, wisdom, and issues of aging.

So there you have it. There is the basics of the Fae realm! Feel free to leave any thoughts or questions in the comments. Merry Meet and Blesses Be!

What Happens When We Die

Sorry about skipping Saturdays post! I was crazy busy and totally didn’t think of it but lets start with this post.

So, like all aspects of Wicca not everyone believes the exact same thing when it comes to what happens after we die.

One thing that is pretty uniform about our beliefs on death is that we all tend to believe in reincarnation. What differs is what happens between death and reincarnation. I think the common belief is that when we die we go to summerland. What people think happen in summerland varies but it is generally thought to be a place where the soul goes to reflect on their previous lives and prepare for the next. Some believe that they walk summerland with the god and goddess and reflect with them where other’s believe they are just in this tranquil state and reflect on their own.

Also what Wiccan’s believe they reincarnate into varies. I believe it is most commonly thought that you reincarnate into a random new person. Other’s believe it has to do with Karma and based on how good of a person you were in your past life. Other’s are more inclined to believe in that you are reincarnated into whatever the earth needs at the time, so a person, animal, tree, etc

Another thing about Wicca is some Wiccan’s (to my understanding a majority but I’m not positive) believe in different realms. So a lot of Wiccan’s believe in fairies, in gnomes, and other magical creatures. A lot also believe that we are not the only planet to have living beings like humans. So some Wiccan’s also believe we can reincarnate from and into those other species.

I will tell you what I believe now. I believe that when we die instead of going to a place such as summerland our souls just return back to the earth until we are ready to become reincarnated again. I believe all of our souls have a mission that originated with their creation and that our soul gets reincarnated into whatever at that time will be the best fit for our goal. For example I believe my soul is a Starseed which essentially means it originates from a different planet. My soul’s mission was to come to earth and try and better the earth through children. I came to this conclusion because I went to see a Shaman and she told me this without knowing anything about me and it just so happens I am studying to be an early childhood educator and all the details she gave fit my life perfectly. Also a lot of characteristics that starseeds possess I also possess. As for whether I believe in fairies, gnomes, unicorns, and the like is something I haven’t decided yet.
