Tips

If you believe that consecrating your magickal tools makes them more powerful then why not do the same with your school tools. Consecrate your pens, pencils, ruler, calculator, scribblers, etc to make them more powerful!

If you live in dorms and have a roommate then having a permanent altar may not to realistic for you. So having a temporary altar may be more up your speed. You can keep all your altar tools in a shoe box and no one would be the wiser.

If you worship deities then you can also pray to get the support you need with school. I would find the deity in your pantheon that deals with the more logical aspects of life and pray to them. Some examples of deities you may want to pray to are Athena, Lugh, Seshat, Saraswati, Odin, etc.

I also recommend that you meditate. Meditating when you’re overwhelmed, having a hard time focusing, or right before a big test can be super helpful. It clears your mind of all the useless crap and lets you tune in to what is really important.

I’d love to do more school related posts/videos if anyone has anything they’d like to request (spells, how to be a closeted wiccan in secondary and post secondary school, etc). However that is all for today. I hope this helps you a bit this school year. Make sure you follow me here and on instagram so you get notifications when I post and when I upload videos to youtube. Mental Illness Ritual Bath

Hi everyone. Today I wanted to talk about something that affects me. I want to talk about mental illness. However I want to make some disclaimers before I start. Firstly I want to talk about what I am referring to when I say I am affected by mental illness. When it comes to physical sickness there are certain things you go to the hospital for and some things your don’t. A regular cold or a little flu are not hospital worthy. Despite that though you are still sick. When I think of how mental illness affects me I think of it as I have the cold (and occasionally flu) equivalent of mental illness. Do I need meds and a therapist for it? No. Do I still feel unwell? Yes. So I just wanted to put that out there before anyone questions me on just how severe my mental illness is or whatever. My second disclaimer is this: Nothing I say in this post is going to cure your mental illness. May it help you cope? sure. Could it potentially alleviate some symptoms or at least make them slightly more bearable? Maybe, but no promises. Everyone’s journey is different. And I just hope that maybe you can get something out of this.

When it comes to me I always (especially in the mornings) have a higher than average anxiety level, for no good reason at all. And every once in a while I’ll experience symptoms of depression. Usually I’ll be very irritable and very low energy. Last week and the week before I was experiencing this. And by the end of last week I decided enough was enough and that I was going to try and do something to get out of this funk. So I made a ritual self love/happiness bath. I would like to share it with you. I feel that this is a mix of both a spell and a ritual so I will leave this in both of those sections in our BoS.

preview

Ingredients:

  • Epsom salt
  • Lavender
  • Rose quartz
  • Green Kyanite
  • Green Obsidian
  • Amythest
  • Some seashells
  • Yellow Candle
  • Incense (I used one that’s for the heart chakra)

Steps to making the ritual bath:

  1. Sage your crystals and yourself
  2. In some sort of container (I used my big cauldron) mix together the lavender, the epsom salt, the crystals, and the shells while thinking about the intention of your bath
  3. With the bathroom lights off start running your bath and add the ingredients to the water
  4. Have your candle and incense on the bathtub ledge or nearby.
  5. Once in the tub light the candle and the incense
  6. Call upon whoever you wish and ask them to help you find the joy you’ve been lacking and to give you the strength to get through the rough time you’re experiencing. I called upon Gaia and Aphrodite.
  7. Enjoy your bath, you could meditate, do a face mask, watch your favourite show, read a book, whatever brings you joy.
  8. Thank whoever you called upon when you are done.

If you desire to have a sacred circle feel free, you can also make the water sacred by adding rosemary. I don’t always feel the need to do sacred circles especially when I am doing impromptu rituals/spells (like I was in this situation). Please feel free to share your journey with us, or any spells/rituals that you do to aid in your mental health down below, along with any other thoughts or questions you may have. Make sure you follow me here and on twitter so you get notifications when I post and when I upload videos to youtube. Until next time, Blessed Be!

Lavender

642x361_What_Lavender_Can_Do_for_You

Lavender has numerous associations; some of which are listed below.

Planet: Mercury

Element: Air

Astrological sign: Virgo

Macgick: Sleep, long life, peace, wishes, protection, love, purification, visions, attracting men, clarity of thought.

There are various uses for lavender in a magickal sense. For example, lavender can be used as an herb to infuse water that is being used to purify objects and spaces. Dried lavender sticks can be burned for smudging and as incense. It is used in spells for sharpening the mind, to encourage and strengthen pure love, and to encourage fertility. You can also use lavender in diffusers or in a bath to help with stress or depression. It can be used as well in spells or by stuffing it in a pillow to aid in sleep and sooth headaches. Lavender is an herb often used by people who do necromancy. It is a good herb to use to get in touch with spirits, to send them messages, and it is said carrying lavender, on your person, can improve your ability to see them.

Hope you guys enjoyed this addition to our book of shadows. What do you use lavender for? Let me know in the comments along with any other thoughts or comments you have. Midsummer/Litha Ritual

Today I thought it would be fun to add more to our book of shadows since I’ve been slack with it. Since Midsummer/Litha is coming up on June 21st (I’ll be writing a whole post about it on Wednesday) I thought having a new ritual for the day would be a good idea. I found this ritual on wicca.com and thought it was pretty fun. I am also going to have possible adjustments for those of us Wiccans with less of a budget/inventory.

Tools:
In addition to your usual magical tools, you will need:

  • A Golden Yellow Alter Cloth (I would likely skip this step as I don’t have any altar cloths… you could use a scarf, blanket, or towel though)

  • Small Cloth Pouch of Summertime Herbs (I would just have the herbs and skip the pouch)

  • Cauldron (I use a tin bucket from the dollarstore)

  • 1cup Fresh Spring Water (any water will do, you could even collect fresh rain water and charge it under the sun)

  • Red Sun God Candle

  • Green Earth Goddess Candle

  • Summer Blend Incense (I use lavender)

Preparation:
Sweep area moving in deosil manor. Set up Quarter Candles and any accessories symbolizing the Elements of the Quarters. Decorate the alter with seasonal flowers, especially Sunflowers. Prepare your Pouch of Summertime Herbs, and as you make it, pour your troubles, pains, sorrows, illness, and regrets into it (You could instead pour your herbs in a bowl). Place the Cauldron in the center of your alter, the Red Sun candle to the right of it , the Green Goddess Candle to the left of it. Place the cup of Fresh Spring Water in front of the Goddess Candle. Take a shower or bath for purification. Sit quietly and meditate for a while, then ground and center. When ready, play some peaceful music for the ritual.

Cast the circle…….Pick up your Wand (you can use your athame as well or just your finger), and with arms upraised, face South and say:

“I celebrate the Mid-of-Summer, held in honor of the Blazing Sun God. All of Nature vibrates with the fertileness of the Goddess and of the God.   The Earth basks in the light and life of the Sun.
The ever turning Wheel of the Year has made the light ever stronger And the light has kept growing longer, until today…
The middle of the time of light, Litha, MidSummer’s Day, Summer Solstice.
From here, the light begins to fade, again, until once more the Wheel turns to the time of darkness, Yule, Winter Solstice.
Yet, for today, the Sun is high, the light is bright, the Earth is warm. As the Sun God blazes above, may the fires of my rite flame below.”

Face the alter, put down your wand, and light the Green Goddess Candle to the left of your cauldron, saying:

“Oh, Mother of Nature, She that brings the meadow to bloom, Green Forest Mother, from lakes and streams your children spring forth. Blessed Lady of the stars and the Moon, Fruitful Womb of which I honor, and ask of Thee, Thy Blessings.”

Light the Red Sun God Candle to the right of your cauldron, saying:

“Oh, Father of all things, He that plants the seed and nurtures Life.   God of Fertility and Fruitfulness, from hill and forest your children emerge.   Blessed Lord of the blazing Sun, potent Consort of which I honor, and of Thee, Thy Blessings.”

Take the Herb Pouch (or bowl) and hold above your head, saying:

“By thy power, oh sacred herbs, may the Lord of the Sun Burn away the hurtful, the troublesome, and the painful, Leaving me purified through His warmth and Light.”

Hold the pouch over your main Alter Candle to take flame. While it is burning, drop it in the cauldron (instead of this I would put a tealight in my cauldron and sprinkle the herbs over the flame), saying:

“Great Goddess and Great God, from Thee all powers flow forth.
The Two that are One, Great Spirit of All-That-Is,
By Thy powers, and the powers of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth,
By Thy powers, and the powers of the Sun, Moon, and Stars,
I banish these negatives from my life.”

Visualize the negatives burning away to nothingness. When all that is left is ashes, douse the ashes with the cup of Fresh Spring Water, feel as if the water were being poured over you and your negatives washed away. Air dry by dancing and running your hands up and down your arms, body, and legs. Don’t forget your head… lay it back and shake running your fingers through your hair. When done, face alter, wave hand over the cauldron and say:

“As the Phoenix rises from the ashes, so let this water be pure and new.
Mother Goddess, bless this water so that it may bless and renew me.
Father God, may your rays of the MidSummer Sun bless and nourish me.
Two that are One, may your blessings sustain me as I journey, anew.”

Pass your cupped hands over the cauldron, pausing briefly each time to ‘ pour ‘ in wishes for health, prosperity, and good fortune to be part of your life. Dip the forefinger of your right hand into the cauldron water, and trace a pentagram on your forehead, saying:

“Let my mind be open to the truth.”

Anoint your lips saying:

“Let my lips always speak the truth.”

Anoint your heart area, saying:

“Let my heart seek the ways of the Goddess, now and always.”

Anoint the centers of your palms, saying:

“Let my hands be gifted to work in magickal ways.”

Anoint the soles of your feet, saying:

“Let my feet ever walk upon the sacred paths!”

Now is the time for meditation, divination, and any spellworkings. MidSummer spellworkings include: prosperity, fertility, and plentiful harvests. Finish by having the Cakes and Ale Ceremony and releasing the circle. Clean up. The Ritual is done.

Remember there is no right or wrong way to do a ritual so if something in this ritual doesn’t feel right to you, don’t do it, or substitute other things in. Also, if you want some ideas on summer herbs try these mugwort, vervain, chamomile, rose, honeysuckle, lily, oak, lavender, ivy, yarrow, fern, elder, wild thyme, daisy, carnation, and St. John’s Wort.

Chakras: The Navel, Heart, and Throat Chakras

Last week we talked about what chakras are and about the specifics of the root and sacral chakra. You can check that post here Chakras: The Root and Sacral Chakras. This week we are going to be talking about the specifics of the Navel, Heart, and throat chakras.

The Navel Chakra (AKA the Solar Plexus Chakra)

Solar-Plexus-chakra

Colour: Yellow

Location: At your navel which is around your belly button.

Element: Fire

The Navel chakra is about asserting yourself in a group.

When opened: You will have a sufficient self esteem

When under-active: You are likely indecisive and passive. You are probably shy and timid which results in you not getting what you want.

When over-active: You are likely bossy, aggressive, and domineering.

Healing and Balancing the navel chakra:

  1. Reiki
  2. Crystal Healing (citrine, topaz, tiger eye, and yellow jasper)
  3. Essential oils (juniper, cedarwood, black pepper, hyssop, marjoram, cardamom, lemon, and vetiver)
  4. Chakra Mudra (This mudra is activated when you place you hand on your thighs, touch the tips of the thumb, index, and ring fingers together, straighten your pinky and middle finger)
  5. Chakra sound therapy (the sound “RAM” is the Mantra that connects with the navel chakra. The frequency of RAM perfectly matches the vibrations of the Navel Chakra)
  6. Meditation (Imagine a yellow ball of energy shining at your navel that gets brighter as it travels down your pelvis, down to the base of your spine, and down your legs to your feet. You can also practice the Mudra and Mantra while you meditate)
  7. Natural healing methods (sitting, dancing, singing, and laughing with friends around a bonfire)

All about Smudging

Hi everyone! I am so sorry for how incredibly flaky I’ve been for like the last month or so. I am wrapping my school career up and it’s been ridiculously busy. I promise once things settle down I’ll be more consistent.

Having said that today I want to talk about smudging. It is something that I think is very important even if you are not native, a wiccan, witch, pagan, etc. At the end of the day our homes, belongings, and ourselves collect unwanted energies that need cleared. I personally smudge my home about once a month but really I do it whenever I feel it needs cleansed. I think I want to start a routine of smudging myself on the daily though. In the morning and before bed. We shall see though.

So essentially smudging is the act of burning herbs/plant material and using the smoke it produces to get rid of unwanted energies and to bring balance. There are different materials people burn. You can burn these herbs on their own or in various combinations with each other. You can burn any herb in your home but some of the most popular herbs to burn are:

White sage: it is typically used to get rid of negative energies (this is what I use in my home)

Sweetgrass: Used to cleanse a sacred space and invites good spirits

Lavender: Used to attract peace, happiness, and a restful sleep. It also aids in divination and meditation. It is often associated with fairies and elves

Cedar: Banishes fear and enhances psychic power. It is considered a guardian spirit and chases away the bad spirits

Tobacco: It is considered an activator of all plants. It helps with communicating with the spirit world.

Just as there are lots of different herbs you can smudge with there are also various ways to smudge. You can burn the end of a bundle of herbs or you can burn loose herbs. I typically burn in a bundle but today I tried loose herbs. I think I will continue with the loose herbs for a while to really give it a shot. When you burn with a bundle there is typically less clean up. Some think you need to burn it in the bundle because it keeps everything evenly cleansed. With loose leaf you have to have a container of some sort to burn it in. I liked doing it that way today because you can offer the remaining herb in your burning dish back to the earth. Some think you need to burn it loose because it brings more air and lightness to the cleansing. It’s really whatever is best for you though. If you are burning loose you have to decide what to burn it in. It obviously needs to be heat resistant. Ceramic is probably a good bet. Some use Abalone shells (I personally do). I think it is a great way to incorporate the element of water into my smudging practice. Some though associate the shell with the mother of the ocean and using the shell is seen as disrespectful. Once again it is up to you.

As for how to smudge, There are numerous methods and I think, as long as you have the best of intentions, a smudging will always work, regardless of if you do it properly or not.  But what I think is most effective for smudging a home is open the doors and windows, if possible, and start in the lowest part of the building. I light my herbs and start off by saying I and the elements fire (the flame), water (the shell), air (the feather/smoke), and earth (the herb) do not welcome any negative energy in this home. Then I go through the house room by room and chant “negative energy you are not welcome here. This is a place of love, peace, and joy”. I go through each room until I feel moved to leave. You may have to relight your sage from time to time. When I smudge the last room I say something along the lines of “the elements, myself, and any gods and goddesses and positive spirits that would like to join me banish any negative energy in the home. This is a place of love, peace, and joy”. After that I smudge myself and my cats. Then, if I have any remains, I pour water on it and give it back to the earth and say thank you.

When smudging yourself I simply take my hands and wash the smoke over my face and heart. I then feather my self starting at my feet and up to my head and then I try and get as much of my back as I can. As for my cats they don’t like it very much so I just give a couple of fans with my feather in their direction. As for objects I light my sage and pass the object I want cleared, through the smoke. As you do that you can chant what you want from the smudging. Ex) you want to cleanse your crystal. So you pass your crystal through the smoke and as you do it chant “this crystal is cleansed of any negative energy”.

Lastly, I just want to make clear that one if you are in a situation where you don’t feel comfortable chanting out loud you can do so in your head. It will work. I just find saying it out loud when I can helps keep my energies up. Also be aware that smudging can take more focus and energy than you realize in the act. Having said that you may be a little drained afterwords, especially if there was a lot of negativity to clear. So sit down for a bit and have some water.
