What Messages do Butterflies Have for us?

Before we start I just wanted to say thank you to all my followers as I am only one follow away from having 50! This is so exciting. I hope you guys are all enjoying my content and maybe we’ll do something fun (like a video or something) when I get to 50. Now, on with the post!

During different times in our lives we may notice that certain animals may present themselves to you either very frequently (more than normal) or in a unique way. When this happens it is pretty safe to say that you are trying to be given a message. This message could be from your spirit guides, a deities, just the earth as a whole, or anything really. I know it is summer time so butterflies are everywhere but I feel like I am seeing more than I normally do and I just have a gut feeling that all these butterflies mean something specific to me.

I already know that Aphrodite is a goddess that is part of my path. I’ve seen her in my meditations when I was learning reiki and butterflies are one of her symbols so I really feel like the message I’m receiving is from her. So given all this I thought it would be fun to write about what messages butterflies bring, so anyone else who is experiencing all the butterflies can understand what is trying to be said.

When you see the butterfly in your life you’re receiving a message about important physical and emotional changes that will transform your life. The butterfly reminds us to be positive and joyful during these changes. Butterflies also tend to gather around true love between people.

The butterfly could also be a message from a passed over love one, telling you that they are happy and safe.

Different coloured butterflies can also mean different things. I haven’t noticed a colour pattern so I think my message is simply one of change but for those of you noticing certain colours here is a guide for you.

White: blessed relationships and natural balance

Orange and black: find courage and strength to get through the changes happening in your life. Orange butterflies work closely with people who are or know someone in distress.

Orange and brown: symbolizes a conflict at hand and to be cautious in heated situations.

Blue: this butterfly sends a messaging of healing possibly for yourself or for someone you know. If it lands on you it means it recognizes you are a spirit of light. If you see them in your garden is means there are nymphs and/or faeries living in your garden.

Black and white: a great transformation is going to happen in ones life where all things can change in all areas of your life.

Yellow: a message of happiness, strength, and hope through adversity, getting through challenges, and a good sign that everything will work out in the end. Two yellow butterflies around each other is the sign for young love. If one is in your house take it as a blessing and a sign to bring plants in your home.

Green: Associated with the nature, mother earth, and all the elements. In a dream it can mean new friendship and love is on the way.

I hope you have found this helpful and thank you for reading. Have you been getting any messages lately? Let me know in the comments along with any other thoughts or questions! Also, make sure to follow me here and on twitter to get notifications on when I post. Until next time, Merry Meet and Blessed Be!

Cilantro and coriander come from the same plant and depending on where you are from are used interchangeably so for the sake of this post I will treat them as the same thing.

Cilantro has many magickal uses, the main one being love. Some of the other uses of it is for clairvoyance, divination, fertility, gain, health, healing, keeping secrets, passion, peace, protection, retention, and weddings.

Cilantro is associated with the planet mars, masculine energy, and the element of fire.

When used in spells it is great for love sachets and spells (remember though love spells have to be worded in a way that manipulates no ones personal will). You can add the powder of the seeds to wine to make a potion of lust (red wine would likely be best for this), you can hang in the home for protection, and you can use it crushed in drinks (like the wine) or in incense if you want to burn it). If you celebrate the great rite this is great to add to an elixir for your celebration. You can also through this instead of rice at a handfasting or add it to the handfasting cake.

If you like to use herbs to help with illness cilantro/coriander is best used for these ailments: digestive complications such as dyspepsia, stomachache, loss of appetite, and flatulence. I personally would brew a tea with cilantro/coriander in it to help relieve these issues.

Happiness Candle Spell

  1. Candle (yellow is happy to me so that is the colour I picked)
  2. oil/liquid to anoint candle (I used lemon juice and vanilla extract)
  3. Herbs for happiness (I used coffee, cinnamon, ginger, salt, catnip, cumin, and bay leaf)
  4. Something to carve with (I used a tack)

  1. Start by cleansing the candle and the carving item with sage.
  2. While saging ask your deities (or whatever power you believe in) to cleanse both items and to bless your candle
  3. Carve the name of the person the spell is for, the word happiness, and a sigil that represent what you want to come of the spell into the candle. Below is the sigil I used.null
  4. Next anoint the candle. Take the liquid you are using and dip two fingers in it. Take you fingers and starting at the top by the wick brush your fingers down the candle and stop at the centre. Continue this until the whole top half of the candle is covered. Then so the same process but start at the base of the candle and make your way to the centre. Do this for the whole bottom half of the candle. While you are anointing the candle visualize what you want the results of your spell to look like and really focus on it.
  5. While your candle is wet roll your candle in the herbs or sprinkle the herbs onto your candle. While you are doing this focus visualizing the results you want to happen from the spell.
  6. After this say these words 3 times (or make your own) while touching or holding the candle:

When the candle burns the name engraved shall receive love, joy, happiness, and peace. Today, tomorrow, now and forever for anything less must now cease. Anger, sadness, worry, and pain are gone for he (or she/they/I) release. From now on and forever more happiness will increase.

      7. Finish be saying so mote it be, blessed be.

I made this spell myself, I hope you get use out of it and feel free to adjust it how you see fit. Thanks for reading! Merry Meet and Blessed Be!

Spirit Guides

Right before I start this post, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Q+A (about wicca, my relationship, family, me in general, whatever). If so please leave me some questions in the comments or message me them on twitter.

So, what are spirit guides? Well they are thought to be spirits that watch over you from your birth to your death. They can show themselves in different forms (humans, various animals, mythical creatures, etc) depending on what you’ll be most receptive to.

Spirit guides are thought to be souls that have completed their purpose and no longer need to reincarnate. They are there to watch over you, keep you safe, be your confidant, and to give you advise if you’re open to it. They overall, help guide your soul to completing it’s purpose. Some children are blessed to have found them early on and continue into adulthood to be in contact with them. I have a youtuber I follow (Hailey Reese) who has known her spirit guides a long time. I on the other hand have seen a glimpse of one (she’s an elderly woman, looks kinda stereotypically witchy) but other than that have not have the fortune of being in contact with them.

I do however feel they send me messages through animals. I go through different times of seeing the same animal a lot over a period of time. Most recently it was a butterfly. Some other ways they can send you messages is through signs (seeing something, not just animals, a lot in a period of time), gut feelings, intuitive insights (thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere), sending people into your life, arranging and nudging (spirit guides can cause things to happen in your life. For example, you lost your keys and you’re looking for them, then you get a very important phone call. If it wasn’t for you losing your keys you would have missed the phone call).

Some ways to more directly communicating with your spirit guides is to meditate. There are meditations on youtube designed for helping your find your spirit guides. Also pay attention to dreams as you may just find that the people in your dreams that you don’t recognize, or the animal that’s always in your dream, may just be your spirit guide. There is also divination. You can do tarot spreads to communicate with your spirit guides as well.

All in all keep an open mind and pay attention to your surroundings and you may just get some insight from those that watch over you from birth.

Thanks for reading! Make sure you follow me on here and on twitter (especially now that I’m travelling) for updates and notifications on when I post. Have you been in contact with your spirit guides? Have any thoughts or questions? Tell me about it in the comments. Merry Meet and Blessed Be!

Rosemary is considered to be male and is ruled by the element of fire, leo, and the sun. It is an herb sacred to Aphrodite. You can put rosemary under your pillow to help remember dreams and to keep away nightmares.

It is commonly used in spells for fidelity, memory, and getting rid of jealousy. It is great to use in a spell for school to help you remember what you are learning. It is also good for spells to retain your youth. You can burn it to help with meditation or dreamwork to remember past lives.

In ritual it is great a ritual bath and making sacred water. When bathing in rosemary it will aid your memory and make you more memorable to others. It is also great for a handfasting. It can be worn to symbolize love and loyalty or be given as gifts for the same purpose. If the bride and groom plant rosemary on their day of their handfasting they watch the plant as it grows to divine the family’s fortune.

If you’re single and have a few people you’re dating, plant a rosemary plant for each person and the one that grows the fastest and strongest is the one for you. If you don’t have any choices make a poppet of yourself and stuff it with rosemary to attract your soulmate to you. You can do the same to attract healing energy.

An interview: An agnostic dating a Wiccan

So after doing an interview on myself about what it is like being a Wiccan dating an Agnostic I thought it would be interesting to see my boyfriends side and get him to answer questions about what it is like being an Agnostic dating a Wiccan. I hope you enjoy hearing his answers as much as I did.

What did you think Wicca was before you had a Wiccan partner?

The only exposure I had to Wicca before dating a Wiccan was how media would portray it (mostly from the TV show Supernatural) which of course displays them with mostly malicious intent. To say I knew a little about Wiccans would be an overstatement of my knowledge. (maybe still is)

Were you surprised when you found out your partner was Wiccan?

Not really. She was in the middle of an early life crisis, having dropped out of university, struggling to find a job, and overall really didn’t have a defined path in her life. In such a period of life, where everything is up in the air, is where a lot of soul searching needs to be done to find out what you really believe. And being with her through that, I was pretty prepared for whatever revelations she may experience.

What’s your favourite part about having a Wiccan partner?

My favourite part of having a Wiccan partner is her appreciation of the outdoors, and nature. I get very happy when I see her just sitting outside, enjoying the nature around her. I get to experience this in the summertime because we like to go camping and hiking, which is always very enjoyable.

What is the most challenging thing about having a Wiccan partner?

The most challenging part of having a Wiccan partner is being supportive of the parts that I don’t understand. I can fully get behind the appreciation of nature, and other elements that are clearly visible in life, but it is much more difficult to try and understand the machinations of rituals, tarot readings, pendulum stuff, etc. I have absolutely no problem with her doing it, that will never be a problem, but it is challenging to continue to be an attentive partner, listening to her talk about it. Since I don’t personally believe in it, it is challenging to stay engaged.

Do you like it when your Wiccan partner includes you in their celebrations? Why or why not?

I am more than happy to partake in parts of celebrations that I can understand, like going on walks to appreciate nature, but I tend to let my partner do the more ritualistic celebrations on her own. I think this benefits the both of us, as I have no interest in partaking and we both know that if I made myself attend, it would likely lower the enjoyment for her as well.

Do you mind your partner doing spells or divination for you?

She is more than welcome to do spells and divination on me, so long as it is known that I don’t believe in the practice. I don’t think it is fair to either party if I “pretend” for the sake of pleasing someone. Just as they can’t change their beliefs on a whim, neither can I. For example, my partner performed reiki on me one night so that she could practice. I have no problem with this, as we both went in knowing that I didn’t believe in it.

Do you have any advice for wiccan’s in the “broomcloset” coming out about their faith to their partner?

If your partner has any sort of negative reaction to who you are, then they’re not a proper partner for you. It’s as simple as that. As I mentioned above, it did not surprise me in the least, nor did I care in the least, that my partner was Wiccan. Nor should it matter to anyone else. If anyone has the audacity to claim that their way is the right way, in a subject as murky and un-provable as religion, then they are too thick-skulled to even consider being in a relationship with. Just tell them. It’ll probably be the easiest litmus test you’ll ever do to see if they’re a reasonable, open-minded human being,

Any other thoughts or feelings about being agnostic while dating a Wiccan?

As long as both parties are respectful of each other’s beliefs, and do not try to impose their views on one another, then everything should go smoothly. In terms of agnostic-specific advice, we literally take no sides on the whole religion argument. Therefore, it makes our job really easy to stay out of the way and let our partner practice whatever they want.

Wicca and Sex

So in many traditional religions sex is viewed as meant for a husband and wife and anything else is considered a sin/wrongful. In Wicca we view sex a little differently. Most religions never really think about their God as a being that has sex but in Wicca some of our holidays are to celebrate just that, deities having sex. Wicca is a fertility religion. What do I mean by that? Well think about it this way, Wicca is thought of most often as a nature based religion. This is true of course. Nature though doesn’t just happen. Nature happens through reproduction. The plants reproduce, the animals, the insects, everything reproduces. And as we know to reproduce we must be fertile and for most living organisms it takes sex to reproduce.

All through Wicca you will find symbols about fertility. The wheel of the year is symbolic of the earth’s fertility. The wheel of the year also is a cycle about the God’s conception, and the goddess’ pregnancy. During Beltane we have the Maypole is a giant phallic symbol. The athame and wand are symbols for the male. The chalice, cauldron, and pentacle are symbols for the female.

There is also sex magick. During magick one raises energy and then releases it. Sex is a great way to build of the energy and the climax is a great way to release it. Couples who practice magick together and partake in this. Solitary Wiccans can do sex magick through masturbation.

So due to the fact that Wiccans see sex as a healthy, natural, and positive act we typically accept our sexuality as human nature. We have nothing against nudity (if anything we are for it considering many of us perform ritual and magick skyclad), and no where in the rede or any other such documents, does it say anything about sex before marriage. This is not to say all Wiccan’s are sexually active. Sex is an individual decision. Some have a lot of sex with numerous partners, some wait for a serious relationship, some wait for marriage, and some are celibate. It all depends on the person.

Also nowadays many wiccan’s are pretty liberal about sexual orientations and those that are homophobic are homophobic on their own accord and not because of religious scripture and belief.

And of course there is unhealthy sex that is not encouraged in Wicca such as:

  1. Imbalance of power (this does not include consensual BDSM). No wiccan coven should ever demand sex from you. As well as child/adult, teacher/student, boss/employee, etc
  2. When sex isn’t about a personal intimate connection with someone but rather about manipulation, used to fill a void left by someone else, when it becomes an obsession/compulsion, or a cry for help. If you’re using sex like a drug it is not healthy.
  3. Non-consensual sex is obviously unethical as it is about manipulation, violence, and control.
  4. Or when someone is being irresponsible with sex. They could be opening themselves up to disease or risking giving someone else a disease, or not properly protecting oneself from unwanted children. As that is not balanced or responsible.

All and all though Wicca is pretty open minded about sex so it is up to you to decide what is best for yourself.

An Interview: A wiccan dating an Agnostic

So I did an interview on myself but I am a wiccan dating an agnostic. Keep your eyes peeled for an interview I did on my boyfriend on what it is like being agnostic and dating a wiccan.

What did you think your partner thought Wicca was before they knew your faith?

I thought my partner would think that Wicca was a cult of people that believed they could do magic like Harry Potter. That it would be more “hocus pocus” than Christianity (which is what I formerly believed in).

Were you surprised by your partners reaction to you being Wiccan?

I wasn’t overly surprised by his reaction. He in general is a judgey person but at the same time he isn’t mean. So although you can see the judgement in his eyes, he never said anything mean. This judgement though wasn’t about Wicca exclusively. It is about religion as a whole.

What’s your favourite part about having an agnostic partner?

My favourite thing about my partner being agnostic is that while he doesn’t believe in what I do he doesn’t think that I am crazy. He believes that it is all possible.

What is the most challenging thing about having an agnostic partner?

Often times I feel isolated because I can’t talk to him about my religion and have him understand. So I either have to keep everything to myself or tell him for the sake of telling someone even though he is just listening without comprehending.

Do you like it when your agnostic partner partakes in your celebrations? Why or why not?

I like it when he partakes in activities like egg dying, bread making, nature walks, and stuff like that. It makes me happy having someone to celebrate with and have fun with. On the other hand though, I would not want him to do a ritual with me. That has a lot more to do with worshipping deities that he doesn’t believe in so I would feel really awkward if he attended one unless he specifically asked to.

Do you do spells or divination for your agnostic partner?

I have not done any spells for my partner. I don’t know if he wants me to and I haven’t had a need or guts to ask him about it. I don’t like to talk about the magick aspect of my faith with my boyfriend because I know that is something he thinks is less likely to be possible. Has for divination I have done readings that involve the both of us but not ones that are just about him, for the same reasons as spells.

Do you have any advice for wiccan’s in the “broomcloset” coming out about their faith to their partner?

At the end of the day if they can’t accept you for who you are, why would you want to be with them? Try and initially explain your faith as simply as possible and overtime you can introduce more and more ideas about your faith to them. Also, it may be good to ask them if they have any questions for you about it so you can better help them understand.

Any other thoughts or feelings about being Wiccan while dating an agnostic?

Just remember that in the Wiccan faith we are not suppose to try and convert others. Everyone has their own path. So while you can educate your partner on the topic to try and get them to understand your faith, don’t try and pressure them to partake in your celebrations or force them to do anything they aren’t comfortable doing. If you want them to treat you with respect then you need to also treat them with respect.

Wheel of the Year: Litha

So tomorrow is Litha/Midsummer/Summer Solstice so now is a better time than any to talk about what Litha is and what we do to celebrate!

So Litha is celebrated on the summer solstice of each year which is June 21st. This day is the opposite of Yule and celebrates the longest day of the year. On this day the sun god is at his peak and is at his strongest. The Goddess is very pregnant at this point which can be seen in our fields and gardens as crops are in the midst of growing. And while we are excited about the strength of the god and the pregnancy of the goddess we are sad because after this day the god will only become weaker until his death on Samhain.

Some ways to celebrate on this day are to light a bonfire in tribute of the sun god, place an offering in a body of water to encourage water supply to the thirsty crops, watch the litha sunrise and sunset, charge your crystals in the magickal energy of the sun, create a magick wand, leap the bonfire for luck and health in the coming year, wear a crown of flowers in your hair. Now is also a great time to try and see the fae. Keep an eye out especially around your garden. This is a traditional time to either dedicate yourself the god and goddess or to renew your vows to them.

Now is a good time to celebrate deities such as these:

Father Gods and Mother Goddesses, Pregnant Goddesses and Sun Deities. Particular emphasis might be placed on the Goddesses Aphrodite, Astarte, Freya, Hathor, Ishtar, Venus and other Goddesses who preside over love, passion and beauty. Other Litha deities include Athena, Artemis, Dana, Kali, Isis, Juno, Apollo, Dagda, Gwydion, Helios, Llew, Oak Holly King, Lugh, Ra, Sol, Zeus, Prometheus, Ares, Mother Earth, Father Sun, the fey, fairy folkand Thor.

And as I always say on any sabbat it is customary to perform a ritual (Midsummer/Litha Ritual), go for a nature walk, eat food in season, do divination and/or magick for healing, growth, empowerment, and love.

Thanks for reading! What are you going to do to celebrate this Litha? Let me know in the comments along with any other thoughts or questions you may have. Also don’t forget to follow me here and on twitter to get notifications when I post! I hope you have a lovely Litha! Until next time, Merry Meet and Blessed Be.

Tarot Series~Major Arcana Card 6: The Lovers

When pulled upright this card is about harmony, attractiveness, and perfection in a relationship. This relationship can be romantic, physical, friendship, family, whatever. It is commonly thought of to be about a romantic relationship. It’s about trust and unity which gives the lovers strength and confidence; this empowers them. On the other hand it can be about a choice. A choice between two things that are opposites and are mutually exclusive. This card can also be about your spiritual path and committing to it despite it being unorthodox. You are figuring out what you’re going to stand for and what your philosophy in life really is.

When pulled in reverse his card is about inner/outer/both conflicts that you are dealing with. You are experiencing disharmony that is putting pressure on you and likely your relationships. You need to figure out what you are punishing yourself for and why. You also need to figure out if your beliefs and philosophies align with what you want for yourself. Another interpretation is your communication needs worked on. This lack of communication is likely causing breaks in the foundation of your relationship with a loved one. Lastly this card could mean you are not taking responsibility for your actions. You may have made a decision in the past without thinking about the long term and you are now blaming others for the consequences your decision brought. You need to either let go of the past or make amends and learn from this experience.

Here is a spread that focuses on The Lovers. First I would take The Lovers out of the deck and meditate with it thinking of love and what you want to know about it. Then I would shuffle the cards and pull them using the method you think is best.

Card 1: This card represents your love of yourself, self-love and self-image, representing strengths and weaknesses, or issues to get through.

Card 2: This card represents your love for others, your family, friends, lovers. Can represent a specific person and how you react to him or her, or how you see others, or a relationship.

Card 3: This card represents another factor or person, something not accounted for, because these situations are never simple! Can be a love triangle, or a difficult choice.

Card 4: This card represents strange Fate, or larger currents and directions, situations out of your control. Also represents the love the Universe holds for you, and your trust (or lack of faith) in that.

Cards 1, 2 and 4 are forms of love you will always have and that are not dependent on others: your love for yourself, your love for others, and the love the Universe has for you.
